News: Mitsubishi previews next Shogun hybrid in Tokyo show concepts
Plug-in and play
Mitsubishi has released images of three concept vehicles, one of which is likely to be the next Shogun.
The SUV-based concepts will be shown at the Tokyo motor show in October and showcase the Japanese car maker’s work in hybrid technologies.
The likely Shogun replacement is the Concept GC-PHEV, a full-size SUV that uses a powerful plug-in hybrid electric system. Mitsubishi says it blends the dynamic drivability of an SUV with class-leading environmental performance. The vehicle has the car maker’s Super All Wheel Control system designed to improve handling, stability and all-terrain capability.
Much of this vehicle’s technology is also in the smaller Concept XR-PHEV, a compact SUV fitted with a lightweight plug-in hybrid system and which offers nimble handling characteristics to go with its coupé looks.
The third vehicle, the Concept AR, is a next-generation people carrier powered by a “down-sized” direct-injection, turbocharged engine, and combining an MPV’s space and seating options with the mobility of an SUV.
