News: Sat nav sends London landlubbers into the briny

THE CURSE of the sat nav has struck again after the driver of a car drove into the sea on the instructions of her car’s guidance system.

The woman driver and her three passengers, on holiday in West Wales, drove past a sign saying “no through road” and ended up bonnet-deep in water.

The disoriented ladies, from London, were rescued by coastguards and taken to the pub they had been looking for in the village of Angle, near Pembroke.

Alycia Watkins, the landlady of the Old Point House, said, “They got quite a ribbing from the locals and were in need of a stiff drink or two.”

Their sat nav error follows one made last October by an 80-year-old woman who followed what she believed was her sat nav’s instruction to turn right at a level crossing. After driving 30 metres along the tracks she realised her mistake, and she and her passenger abandoned the vehicle. Trains were alerted and it was removed without incident.

A COACH driver put his passengers through four hours of unnecessary misery in December 2007 after following his sat nav to Lille in Belgium instead of Lille in France, 100 miles away.

PERHAPS THE greatest sat nav error of all occurred in 2008 when Syrian lorry driver Necdet Bakimci drove from Turkey to Gibralta Point neat Skegness, instead of to the Rock of Gibralta.
