Chris Evans announces Top Gear returns to BBC on Sunday, May 8

CHRIS EVANS, the new face of Top Gear, has revved up fans of the BBC television programme by announcing that the first episode of the relaunched car show will be aired on Sunday, May 8.

The current presenter of BBC Radio 2’s breakfast radio show and Channel 4’s TFI Friday revealed to James Martin, on BBC1’s Saturday Kitchen, that the first episode would be screened the Sunday after filming ends on May 5.
Evans told Martin that the show was “going to America to make our first intercontinental in January” but did not reveal who will co-present with him. There will be 16 episodes.
One of the names linked to the new Top Gear is Jenson Button, but the F1 driver told driving.co.uk recently that he had no plans to join the show.
Top Gear’s former presenters, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, are working on a new show for Amazon. May has said that it will be screened next autumn but has admitted that the trio are stumped when it comes to choosing a name.
“It’s actually very difficult to come up with a new name for something that hasn’t already been bagged by someone else, unless you call your new show Shubbley-Doobley-Woobley or something like that. We genuinely haven’t got a name,” May said.
