Prince Phillip car crash debris removed from eBay
All proceeds would have gone to charity
AN EBAY user offering “car crash parts” from the collision involving the Duke of Edinburgh says they have had the listing removed by the auction website on the grounds of “suspicious activity.”
Bids for the “three plastic parts”, claimed to be from the crash between Prince Phillip’s Land Rover and a Kia near the Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk on Thursday, had reached more than £65,900 with more than five days left on the auction.
The description said the items “may even have Phil’s DNA on it, if you wanted to clone him or anything”.
Seller morbius777, who was looking to donate 100% of the proceeds to charity, wrote: “These items are not stolen, they have been left at the roadside for way too long.
“It amazes me that they weren’t cleaned up on the day. So, as opportunists do, I tidied them up.
“There’s no financial gain in this for me, all proceeds going to charity. It’s a bit of fun, and Cancer Research get to benefit.”
Money raised from the online auction was to go to Cancer Research UK.
However, the advert has since been removed by eBay. Morbius777 told Driving.co.uk the reason given was: “The auction was removed as suspicious activity.”
The user added: “Or royal involvement maybe?”
An eBay spokesperson said: “This listing has been removed in line with our policy relating to the sale of any item that seeks to profit from human suffering or tragedy.”
