The company recently invited the artists, based near its offices in Mountain View, California, to submit designs based on the theme ‘my community, my neighbours’ for a competition it called Paint the Town.
It was deluged with entries and has now selected 10 winning designs, plus two honourable mentions, and put them on the sides of its driverless, pod-like two-seater test cars.
The designs include a view of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and the wildlife reserve in the Bay Area.
