Beijing show: VW shades hot Golf R with scorching Golf R 400 concept
IF THE 300bhp Golf R isn’t powerful enough for you there’s always this: the 390bhp Golf R 400. Or at least there would be, were it not a concept.
IF THE 300bhp Golf R isn’t powerful enough for you there’s always this: the 390bhp Golf R 400. Or at least there would be, were it not a concept.
The car, to be revealed at the Beijing motor show this weekend, features a tuned and heavily modified version of the Golf R’s four-cylinder, turbocharged 2-litre petrol engine. Like the regular Golf R, the 400 has four-wheel drive.
The power upgrade sees the new concept shave 1.0sec off the Golf R’s 0-62mph time, taking it to 3.9sec. The top speed is 174mph.
The R 400’s devastating performance aside, what is likely to attract second glances is its radical design which features body and bumper mods, flared wheelarches, uprated wheels and a reworked interior with motorsport shell seats. “Lemon Yellow” interior stitching and highlights across the grille complete the effect.
The Golf R 400 is only a concept but a VW spokesman said it could well make production if demand justified it. So get writing.
