Divine intervention? Trump-supporters’ motorhome destroyed after rolling into telegraph pole
The right wing of the vehicle was damaged…
A motorhome festooned with Donald Trump-supporting signage has crashed into a pole and been written off while en route to a rally in support of the former US president.
The recreational vehicle (RV) (to use US-speak), belongs to ardent Trump fans Donna Eiden and Rocky Granata, from Philadelphia. The pair sell Trump and Make America Great Again (Maga) merchandise from the vehicle, which is covered in slogans and posters that promote Trump and Republican values while criticising the current Democrat president, Joe Biden. The RV also featured a prominent sign that read “Trust Jesus”.
They were heading to a rally in support of the 2024 presidential hopeful on Sunday morning (June 2) when the incident happened in Staten Island, New York.
Social media field day
The embarrassing crash, which splashed all over social media showing the aftermath, came little more than a day after Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records, primarily relating to a US$130,000 (£102,000) hush-money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels.
It is just the latest in a series of court cases against the 45th President of the United States of America, who is nevertheless currently seeking re-election to the White House.
The accident happened just before midday on Sunday and is believed to have occurred when the owners failed to securely park their banner-laden RV outside a CVS pharmaceutical store in Staten Island.
The RV then rolled across an intersection (junction) before hitting a telegraph pole on a corner outside a BP fuel station.
‘Just like that, we’re homeless’
Social media pictures of the aftermath show the entire front right-hand side of the vehicle ripped away, while both windscreens on the vehicle were smashed.
Nobody was injured and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A New York Police Department spokesperson told Newsweek: “On Sunday, June 2, 2024, at approximately 1157 hours, police responded to a single-vehicle collision at the intersection Hylan Boulevard and Reid Avenue in the confines of the 122nd Precinct.
“The operator of the vehicle states he parked the vehicle and exited it. When he returned to the vehicle, he saw it strike a utility pole. The passenger of the vehicle was uninjured.”
The accident was reported by the local newspaper, the Staten Island Advance, and owner Eiden said: “That’s our life, we live in it; we travel in it. I have my daughter’s ashes in it. It’s our business. It’s our life.”
Granata added: “Just like that, we’re homeless.”
It is not yet known whether the couple’s insurance policy will cover all the damage caused, but they have said they are planning to purchase another bus and will continue to travel the country in support of Trump.
