Geneva show: McLaren announces new 650S 'baby' P1 supercar

Hot McLaren 650S teased ahead of Geneva motor show

A NEW “baby” version of the P1 supercar will join the McLaren range, the British sports car maker announced today.

Called the 650S ‒ a reference to the power output of its turbocharged V8 engine ‒ it will be positioned between the P1 and MP4-12C range, and will be revealed to the public at the Geneva motor show on March 4. It is expected to cost over £190,000.

Driving has previewed the new model, which will be available in coupé and spyder body styles, and can reveal that it is, in essence, a 12C but with the distinctive face of the P1 supercar.

It is a predictable move. When launched, the 12C attracted criticism for its conservative styling, whereas the P1 was widely praised and went on to be a sell-out success, despite costing a cool £866,000.
