Skoda reveals its fastest accelerating production car yet: the electric Elroq vRS

Green isn't the only colour available


Skoda has unveiled the new Elroq vRS performance model, which gets a significant boost in power and a sportier interior design.

A go-faster version of Skoda’s practical-yet-compact electric SUV, the Elroq vRS is the Czech brand’s fastest-accelerating and fastest-charging production model to date.

Under the skin, the car gets two electric motors — one on the front axle and one at the rear — to provide all-wheel drive and 335bhp. That means it’ll get from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds; the top speed is limited to 111mph.

As well as the extra power, the car also benefits from a visual makeover, with a new high-gloss black panel at the front, LED Matrix headlights and black accents all around. The side window trim, roof rails and door mirror caps are all finished in black, while the front and rear bumpers get full-width reflector strips that are mirrored in other vRS models.

The Elroq vRS is also set apart by vRS badging on the front wings, and aerodynamically optimised alloy wheels measuring up to 21 inches in diameter. The vRS-specific Hyper Green colour scheme is available as an option, while the car comes with privacy glass as standard.

Inside, the vRS version of the Elroq is distinguished by its mostly black interior, which features Suedia microfibre upholstery with lime-green contrast stitching and carbon-effect decor. The three-spoke heated sports steering wheel is trimmed in perforated black leather and also comes with lime green stitching and a vRS logo.

Elsewhere the cabin design is more or less unchanged, with the same 13in touchscreen as in the standard Elroq and the same basic dashboard shape. But the vRS adds to the ensemble with an augmented reality head-up display that’s fitted as standard — as are the heated sports seats and the stainless-steel pedals.

Less immediately apparent is the lowered sports suspension, which sees the vRS sit 15mm lower than standard at the front and 10mm lower at the back. There’s also a new steering set-up to make the car feel a little sportier, and there are more powerful brakes to deal with the car’s additional speed.

As an option, Skoda will offer customers Dynamic Chassis Control, or DCC, which allows the car’s suspension to be set up for the road conditions. There are pre-configured settings, such as Comfort and Sport, but there’s also an option to create an individual set-up using 15 adjustable parameters to configure the car exactly as the driver wants it.

Even the sound the car pipes through the speakers to mimic engine noise is adjustable, with drivers able to choose between “Sport” and “Futuristic” settings.

Whichever way customers configure their car, though, it will come with the same 84kWh battery pack, of which 79kWh is usable. According to Skoda, that gives the car an electric range of more than 340 miles on a single charge — a small decrease on the Elroq 85 — while also offering rapid charging at up to 185kW from suitable DC public charging points. At that speed, the battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes.

Prices for the Elroq vRS will be announced later this month, with the first customer deliveries expected this summer.
