News: Mercedes reveals the GLE 63 AMG road-burner

For a slightly clearer picture of what this new car is, think of it as one of the fastest ways to transport four people from A to B in comfort while winter storms rage around you. The closest alternative we can think of is the BMW X6 M.

Revealed at this week’s Detroit motor show, the GLE 63 AMG has a 5.5-litre, bi-turbo V8 petrol engine that produces 577bhp. This makes it jolly quick: the four-wheel-drive model is said to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in 4.2 seconds.

British drivers will be able to get their hands on this high-speed mini juggernaut in June. In addition to its performance, it has plenty of little luxuries to enjoy, such as a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound audio system, a performance exhaust system, a carbon-fibre engine cover and vast 22in wheels.

Pricing is still to be announced, but given that the ML 63 AMG costs £86,995, the GLE 63 AMG’s price is likely to be approaching seven figures.
