The Toyota Prius was first introduced to the world, in concept form, at the 1995 Tokyo motor show. It went on sale in Japan in December 1997 and sales of the Prius began in North America, Europe and elsewhere in 2000.
Interestingly, Toyota Motor Corporation launched another hybrid, the “Coaster Hybrid EV”, in August 1997 — four months before the Prius first went on sale.
