Test your knowledge: Who starred as Lara Croft, Land Rover-driving Tomb Raider
It might not have been her finest hour, but at least she got to drive a decent car
THE 2001 movie adaptation of video game Tomb Raider could hardly be considered a classic of modern cinema, but it did have a couple of things going for it. First, a rather special custom-built Land Rover Defender 110 featuring a number of bespoke upgrades including a V8 engine (with snorkel, naturally), winches at the front, rear and sides, a dash-mounted notebook computer, a GPS navigation system and GSM telephone.
A limited-edition version was created for the road. Although the road-going Land Rover Tomb Raider came with a standard Td5 engine rather than the V8 petrol, it certainly looked the part and seemed to win over Land Rover enthusiasts, despite being the result of a marketing meeting in California.
The second notable feature of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider was its leading lady. She’s such a talent that, despite appearing in this piece of Hollywood fluff she still enjoys a flourishing career. Can you remember who it was? Find the answer below…

Angelina Jolie took on the titular role in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. She perhaps should have known better than to accept a role in a video game adaptation ‒ they don’t tend to be received well critically or publicly. At least she got to drive a nice car.
