Volvo recalls new XC90 over airbag trim-panel glitch
Deliveries have been halted
VOLVO’S EXECUTIVES beamed with pride as they announced the new XC90 SUV was “one of the safest cars in the world”. Yet just months after the car went on sale, the company has announced it is recalling some vehicles after discovering a defect that could affect one of the airbags.
A trim panel at the very back of some of the seven-seat cars may prevent an airbag deploying as effectively as it should in a crash. This would mean passengers in the third row of seats are not fully protected. Volvo has temporarily halted delivery of the new model until it develops a fix. Dealers will be contacting about 300 customers who have taken delivery of affected cars and will repair their cars free of charge. In the meantime, Volvo said all new XC90s are safe to drive.
