land rover range rover evoque

Range Rover Evoque convertible review by Suzi Perry

About the car

When it comes to a brand as universally adored as Land Rover, it speaks volumes that this model remains their most successful in history. The compact SUV offers a surprising amount of luxury, with a finish which could match any other vehicle on the road for its overall design. Despite being around since 2011 the Evoque has done a surprisingly good job of remaining visually contemporary. Things are much the same across the board, with both the drive and interior of this Rover able to compete with anything released within the last six years. Body roll is minimised – a fantastic trait in a car this size – and the drive is wonderfully smooth, thanks to a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

The Inbuilt Tech

There are a number of innovative tech inclusions to enjoy in all trims of the Range Rover Evoque, and some of the highlights are:

Cruise control

Front and rear parking sensors

Keyless entry

A self-parking function

The Evoque also offers a “pack system”, with a plethora of customisation options tagged on to increase satisfaction. There are 10 in total, with some of the more popular including:

Driver assistance: Aiming to help drivers achieve as easy and smooth a journey as possible.

Technology: Primarily serves to boost the technological specs found within your setup.

InControl connect plus: Allows you to connect to Wi-Fi, apps and other types of technological devices for a warranty period.

Dynamic plus: Customises the inside of your vehicle for a luxurious finish.

The Nitty Gritty

The Evoque offers competitive specs for its class, with the following figures what you’d expect to find across the range:

Power – 147-236bhp

0-60mph – 7.1 – 10.8secs

Fuel Economy – 32-65mpg

Insurance Group – 28-41

Road Tax – £30-£280

CO2 emissions are relatively modest in a car of this size, with the numbers ranging from 113g/km (2.0L eD4 SE Tech 2WD) to 181g/km (2.0L Si4 HSE Dynamic 4WD Auto). Choose your vehicle dependent on your greater concern for the environment.

Final Thoughts

Land Rover has proved an ever-reliable model throughout the years, and the Evoque is certainly not a step away from that brand consistency. The versatility lends itself as a potential drive for almost every road user, while heightened technology has brought a classic range smoothly into the modern age.
