'Distracted' BMW driver ploughs into back of emergency patrol truck
High speed shunt shows the dangers of not paying attention on the road

STARTLING footage of a BMW hurtling into the back of an emergency patrol vehicle has been released by New York’s Department of Transportation.
The video shows a black BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo closing fast on the back of one of the Department’s vehicles before smashing into it. The badly-damaged BMW then spins out, hits the central reservation and flips over.
The crash was likely caused by the BMW driver being “seemingly distracted” when the shunt took place, according to the Department of Transportation.
The release of the clip coincides with the Department’s annual “Distracted Driving Awareness Month” campaign, which runs every April to highlight the dangers of a lapse in concentration when behind the wheel.
