Video: Driver catches fire after crashing car into hospital accident & emergency ward
Motives of the driver are unclear
A DRAMATIC video has captured the immediate aftermath of a car crashing into the entrance of a hospital accident and emergency room in America. The driver of the vehicle, which was reported to be carrying petrol cans, was seen to be on fire. Witnesses reported hearing screams for help.
In the video the fire crew is seen attempting to extinguish the fire in the car, which is wedged fully inside the Middlesex Hospital emergency ward in Middletown, Connecticut.
The motives of the driver, identified as Steven Ellam, 27, were unclear but he has “numerous convictions” and was known to police. Ellam was taken to Bridgeport Hospital in a critical condition following the crash, NBC Connecticut reported.

A security guard who was helping evacuate patients immediately after the incident was also taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation. No other injuries have been reported.
